FP&A Manager
About Calo (more here)
Calo is an app providing personalized meal plans for busy people through nutritional algorithms, built with love by chefs, nutritionists, and software engineers.
Launched in Bahrain in 2019, we have since expanded to 6 countries, delivered millions of meals to our customers, and are now expanding our mission of making healthy easy to retail and other verticals.
We're on a noble mission to make healthy easy. We think this is one of the most important problems to tackle in our world today. We have global ambitions - no small thinking here.
Why This Role Matters
You will own Calo's planning, forecasting and performance reporting, and turn them into decisions the leadership team acts on. You will partner with market GMs, Operations, Marketing and Product on unit economics, growth and profitability. Just as important, you will rebuild how FP&A works: replacing manual spreadsheet work with automated pipelines and AI-assisted analysis, so the team spends its time on insight, not assembly.
What You’ll Do
Planning and forecasting
Lead the annual budget and rolling forecasts at group, market and kitchen level.
Build and maintain the driver-based financial model: subscribers, retention, AOV, food cost, delivery cost, CAC and headcount.
Run scenario and sensitivity analysis for market launches, pricing changes and capex decisions.
Performance reporting
Own the monthly close review: budget vs actuals, variance analysis and a clear narrative on what moved and why.
Produce board, investor and leadership reporting packs on time and to a high standard.
Define and track core KPIs: contribution margin per meal, cohort LTV, payback, gross margin by market.
Business partnering
Act as finance partner to market GMs, Operations, Marketing and Product.
Build business cases and post-investment reviews for new kitchens, markets, B2B and retail channels.
Challenge spend and push for unit-economics discipline across the business.
Growth planning and KPI performance
Cascade the annual plan into monthly and weekly KPI targets for each market, and track delivery against them.
Work with market GMs and the Growth team to find where the funnel leaks, from acquisition and conversion to retention and kitchen capacity.
Size and prioritise growth initiatives and pilots, then measure their real impact so the best ones make it into each market's playbook.
Build fast-response plans when conditions shift: a competitor move, a major campaign, a new product launch.
Forecast growth using seasonality, market dynamics and funnel efficiency, and feed it into targets and the budget.
Set up early-warning reporting that flags KPIs drifting off target before they become a miss.
Cost efficiency and margin improvement
Find and drive efficiency opportunities across food cost, packaging, kitchen labour, delivery overheads, G&A and across the board.
Build cost-per-meal and cost-per-delivery benchmarks across kitchens and markets, and close the gap to best performer.
Run zero-based reviews of opex and vendor spend, and track savings from idea to P&L impact.
Partner with Operations and Procurement on waste reduction, capacity use and supplier terms.
Model the margin impact of pricing, menu mix and plan changes before they launch.
People and process
Own the planning calendar, controls and model documentation.
Work with Accounting, Data and Engineering to keep one source of truth for financial data.
AI and automation
This is a core part of the job, not a side project. You will make Calo's FP&A function AI-first.
Automate the reporting cycle end to end: data pulls from the warehouse, variance commentary drafts and pack assembly, cutting monthly reporting time by at least half.
Use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT or similar) daily for analysis, model review, scenario generation and first-draft narratives, with clear human checks on every number that goes out.
Design AI agents or scheduled workflows for recurring jobs: daily KPI flashes, forecast refreshes, spend anomaly alerts.
What We’re Looking For
6+ years in FP&A, corporate finance, investment banking or consulting, with at least 2 years leading people or a planning cycle.
Experience in a high-growth, multi-market business: consumer tech, subscription, e-commerce, food or delivery preferred.
Expert financial modeler in Google Sheets or Excel: three-statement, driver-based and cohort models.
Proven record of automating finance work: show us a process you took from manual to automated and the time it saved.
Hands-on with AI tools in a work setting, with a clear view of where they help and where they fail.
Experience with BI tools such as Metabase, Looker or Power BI.
Clear communicator who can explain the numbers to non-finance leaders and the board.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field; MBA, CFA, CMA or ACCA is a plus.
English required; Arabic is a plus.
